OPEN KITCHEN & DINING
McKinleyville, CA

The project utilized some of the existing unconditioned space and gave it over to the kitchen and dining room. This small change resulted in a dramatic, open living area that is awash in natural light.

The kitchen became only slightly bigger, but a reconfiguration of the cabinets allowed for a more spacious layout. The kitchen utilized universal design to create three distinct areas. The cooking area was set at the typical counter height, the sink area at slightly lower and the island at table height.

The existing sunroom was divided in half to allow for a new dining room. The space took advantage of the existing wood paneling and exposed beams to create a unique area with views out into the backyard.
